TECHNICAL DIVING COURSES

At Sulawesi Dive Trek we offer all ranges of Cave Courses with our in-house technical diving instructors. We proudly are the ONLY dive center in South-East Sulawesi  to offer Technical Cave Training. You will have the opportunity to learn this challenging way of diving in a safe and optimal way in a warm and tropical place.Our small groups ( maximum 3 students per class ) will helps you to progress at your own pace and not be pressurized to reach your goal. Our instructors are highly trained  Technical diver and actually participate in proper exploration projects when they’re not teaching so you will get state of the art training with passionated instructors. With taking your course with us, be sure you will get the best training you can have and will go way beyond the minimum knowledge and performance required by agencies standards.

Every course can be taken in any technical diving configuration : Twinset or Sidemount  can be used for training depending on the goal you want to achieve and what kind of diving you want to do. If you never used any of these configurations before, we strongly advice you to take either a Sidemount or either an Essentials Diver course to get proficient on your chosen configuration as Technical diving requires equipment proficiency. We can of course offer combination of any courses to fit your needs. Let us know where you are now and where you want to be as a diver and we will discuss the best options for you keeping in mind that you should never rush into training and move forward step by step in your diving career.

As the course are performance based, the duration provided in course details is a minimum given. If you not reach what we expect from you to be a safe and confident cave diver, the course will be extended until you the performance requirements are met. We do not want to let you alone in the dark and will make sure you will leave the class being ready to venture deeper and longer. Therefore the price indicated is for the minimum required amound of time. Extra days of training will be charged if needed.

Ultimately, we do think that every Technical diver should have their own equipment.You need to be comfortable and familiar with your equipment, and the best and only way to do it is to have yours so you know how it works, where it is placed and that it is properly maintained. However we understand that not everybody can directly buy the whole full Technical diver equipment neither travel with a full set, that is why we do offer equipment rental in case you need something during the course.

The Technical course can be taught either in Twinset backmounted tanks or sidemount configuration.. You want to learn and grow with the configuration you will dive with in your future divecarreer. Due to remoteness of our sites, rental equipment availability is limited, discuss with your instructor beforewards to ensure you will have eveything you need to enjoy the course.

ESSENTIALS DIVER

This mid-level Specialty Continuing Education Diver Program is designed to enable the certified diver to extend proficiency in the water and to review and put in practice the Essentials skills needed for Technical diving. It is a perfect introduction to Technical Diving mindset, procedures and equipment. This systematic learning and professional training is designed to enhance the student’s personal and team underwater skills : Development of buoyancy, trim, balance and propulsion and equipment Streamlining and configuration. For those who never had a Twinset on the back it is the perfect course before starting actual decompression diving.

COURSE STANDARDS

 

  • Open Water Level required.

  • 2 Days minimum with 240 minutes minimum of inwater time.

  • Open to Junior from 12 years Old.

  • Prerequisites to technical diving if no prior experience.

COURSE PROGRAM 

 

  • Academic Sessions about technical diving mindset and core skills required. 
  • Discovering and practicing the use of a Backmounted Twinset. 
  • Equipment configuration workshop :  Redundancy and Streamlining. 
  • Psychological preparation for Technical Diving. 
  • Perfect buyoancy work. 
  • Propulsion techniques workshop. 
  • Emergency and rescue procedures.

 

  • Open water diver certification.
  • A minimum of 15 years of age for Diver qualification with a parent or guardian authorization.
  • A minimum or 18 years of age without guardian approval.
  • Junior Essentials Diver : Students between 12 years of age and 14 years of age who meet the Essentials Diver performance requirements may qualify for a Junior Essentials Diver certification that allows them to dive under the supervision of an adult who has a minimum of a Open Water Diver certification level or higher.
  • IANTD Essentials Diver Student Kit.
  • Equipment used during this Program must be appropriate for the environment and in good working order.
  • Single Tank, Backmounted Twinset or Sidemount configuration.
  • Backplate and wings for backmount.
  • Long hose recommended on one regulator, minimum 120cm maximum 210cm.
  • A SMB/ Lift Bag.
  • Reel/Spool with at least 100 ft (30 m) guideline.
  • 4 students per instructor max.
  • Minimum course duration : 2 days.
  • Minimum of 1 dive.
  • Minimum of 240 minutes bottom time during the course. 
  • No dives may be conducted to depths greater than diver’s previous certification level.
  • All appropriate safety stops must be performed.

The course can be taught in our Wakatobi or Baubau Location.

ADVANCED NITROX

This Program is designed to extend the diver’s knowledge in the use of Enriched Air Gas for diving. It further develops diving skills and provides a greater understanding of the EANx concept of diving.  You will learn the basics you need to perform small decompression dives (up to 15 minutes of deco stop) and how to use up to 100% Oxygen in your decompression mixes to accelerate deco. It is the perfect program to start your technical diving carreer. Once certified you will be able to dive up to 42 meters.

COURSE STANDARDS

 

  • Nitrox and Deep specialties required with 30 logged dives.

  • 5 Days Minimum with 4 Dives and  120 Minutes bottom time.

  • 42 meters deep and 15 minutes decompression maximum.

  • Sidemount or Twinset configuration proficiency

COURSE PROGRAM 

 

  • Academic Sessions about technical diving mindset and core skills required. 
  • Academic sessions about Decompression and gas selections for deco. 
  • Equipment configuration workshop :  Redundancy and Streamlining. 
  • Psychological preparation for Technical Diving. 
  • Decompression gas handling and gas switching at depth.
  • Technical Dive Planning and contigencies plannings
  • Emergency and rescue procedures.

 

  • Nitrox and Deep diver certification required.
  • A minimum of 15 years of age for Diver qualification with a parent or guardian authorization.
  • A minimum or 18 years of age without guardian approval.
  • Proof of minimum 30 dives.
  • Proof  of Sidemount or Twinset configuration experience.
  • IANTD Advanced EANx Student Kit.
  • Equipment used during this Program must be appropriate for the environment and in good working order.
  • Backmounted Twinset or Sidemount configuration.
  • Backplate and wings for backmount.
  • One oxygen clean regulator for decompression tank.
  • Long hose mandatory on one regulator, minimum 150cm
  • A SMB and a Lift Bag.
  • A primary light.
  • A reel/Spool with at least 50m guideline.
  • 4 students per instructor max.
  • Minimum course duration : 5 days.
  • Minimum of 4 dives.
  • Minimum of 120 minutes bottom time during the course.
  • 2 dives must be done between 30 and 42meters deep.
  • All dives must be conducted using an EANx PO2 of no greater than 1.5 on the bottom mix.
  • PO2’s as high as 1.5 may be used at the decompression or safety stops.
  • All appropriate safety or required decompression stops must be performed.
  • Mandatory decompression stops are limited to a maximum of 15 minutes.

The course can be taught in our Wakatobi or Baubau Location.

ADVANCED RECREATIONNAL TRIMIX

This Program is designed to extend the diver’s knowledge in the use of Enriched Air Gas and Helium for diving. It further develops diving skills and provides a greater understanding of the EANx and Helium concepts of diving.  You will learn the basics you need to perform small decompression dives (up to 15 minutes of deco stop) and how to use up to 100% Oxygen in your decompression mixes to accelerate deco. On top of that you will understand the basics of using Helium to reduce inert gas narcosis and make your breathing at depth easier.. This is your first level of technical diving if Advanced Nitrox is not enough for you.

COURSE STANDARDS

 

  • Nitrox and Deep specialties required with 30 logged dives.

  • 6 Days Minimum with 4 Dives and  120 Minutes bottom time.

  • 51 meters deep and 15 minutes decompression maximum.

  • Sidemount or Twinset configuration proficiency

COURSE PROGRAM

  • Academic sessions about Decompression and gas selections for deco.

  • Backmounted Twinset or Sidemount configuration.
  • Backplate and wings for backmount.
  • One oxygen clean regulator for decompression tank.
  • Long hose mandatory on one regulator, minimum 150cm
  • A SMB and a Lift Bag.
  • A primary light.
  • A reel/Spool with at least 50m guideline.
  • 4 students per instructor max.
  • Minimum course duration : 6 days.
  • Minimum of 4 dives.
  • Minimum of 120 minutes bottom time during the course.
  • 2 dives must be done between 30 and 51 meters deep.
  • Maximum depth : 51 meters.
  • Adequate Helium must be used to provide an END no Greater than 80 fsw (24 msw).
  • All dives must be conducted using an EANx PO2 of no greater than 1.5 on the bottom mix.
  • PO2’s as high as 1.5 may be used at the decompression or safety stops.
  • All appropriate safety or required decompression stops must be performed.
  • Mandatory decompression stops are limited to a maximum of 15 minutes.

The course can be taught in our Wakatobi or Baubau Location.

TECHNICAL DIVER

This Program is designed to train divers to conduct dives to depths between 100 fsw (30 msw) and up to 170 fsw (51 msw) using custom blend breathing gas mixtures. This program does not have limitations on decompression time and is the ultimate level of technical diving before entering the trimix world. You will learn how to plan complex dives, deal with narcosis at depth, use of custom blend gases to accelerate deco and optimize your underwater experience. This is our most demanding program only for those for want to get deep inside technical diving.

COURSE STANDARDS

 

  • Advanced Nitrox required with 100 logged dives.

  • 5 Days Minimum with 4 Dives and  120 Minutes bottom time.

  • 51 meters maximum depth with use of 2 stages maximum.

  • Sidemount or Twinset configuration proficiency.

  • Experience required in decompression diving.

COURSE PROGRAM 

 

  • Academic sessions about Decompression and gas selections for deco. 
  • Planning decompression dives with multiple stages and gases for decompression. 
  • Psychological considerations for complex Technical Dives. 
  • Multiple stages handling at depth.
  • Technical Dive Planning and contigencies plannings
  • Emergency and rescue procedures, narcosis management.

 

  • Advanced Nitrox diver certification required.
  • A minimum or 18 years of age without guardian approval.
  • Proof of minimum 100 dives with at least 30 dives deeper than 27 meters.
  • Proof  of Sidemount or Twinset configuration experience.
  • Proof of decompression experience.
  • IANTD Technical Diver Student Kit.
  • Equipment used during this Program must be appropriate for the environment and in good working order.
  • Backmounted Twinset or Sidemount configuration.
  • Backplate and wings for backmount.
  • Two oxygen clean regulator for decompression tank.
  • Long hose mandatory on one regulator, minimum 150cm
  • A SMB minimum 150cm.
  • A Lift Bag  with at least 22,5Kg / 50 lbs lift capacity.
  • A primary light.
  • A reel/Spool with at least 100m guideline.
  • A Technical computer and a backup decompression solution.
  • 4 students per instructor max.
  • Minimum course duration : 5 days.
  • Minimum of 4 dives.
  • Minimum of 220 minutes bottom time during the course.
  • 2 dives must be done between 39 and 51 meters deep.
  • Maximum depth : 51 meters.
  • All dives must be conducted using an EANx PO2 of no greater than 1.4 on the bottom mix.
  • PO2’s as high as 1.6 may be used at the decompression or safety stops.
  • All appropriate safety or required decompression stops must be performed.
  • Mandatory decompression stops are limited to a maximum of 15 minutes.
  • Maximum of two (2) stage cylinders may be carried
    ► NOTE: A minimum of one (1) must be used in all dives
